Why I Started The Buzz Blog: A Personal Story
I’ve always been a writer. From grade school through college, I was the kid who could turn in a rough draft and still impress my teachers (and my parents). English classes were my safe place — straight A’s, every time. Writing has always been how I process, how I express myself, and how I make sense of what’s going on inside.
Like a lot of women, I’ve always dreamed about journaling or keeping a diary, but my brain tends to run at a thousand miles an hour and my hand just can’t keep up. Typing has always been my outlet — faster, easier, and somehow more natural.
This past year — and especially in the last three months — my life has shifted in some big ways. For the first time in a long time, I’ve had not just the urge, but also the time, to dive back into my creative side. And that’s what brought me here, to The Buzz Blog.
Cutting Through the Noise
What frustrates me most about finding things to do in Houston is the sheer information overload. Every time you try to search, there are sponsored ads everywhere — it’s so easy to get sidetracked. One second I’m looking for a coffee shop to work remotely at, and the next I’m three rabbit holes deep into conspiracy theories about the moon landing. How did we even get here?
We’re so glued to our devices (that are definitely listening to us). The other day I found my old banana clip from high school, and like magic, my feed was suddenly full of banana clip ads. I didn’t Google it, didn’t post about it, didn’t even say anything out loud to a person… but there it was. Creepy, right?
Houston is incredible — there’s always something happening, always a new bar, restaurant, or coffee shop popping up, and always events that make me think, “why didn’t I hear about this sooner?” Too often, I only find out after the fact, and then I’m kicking myself for missing out. I wanted a way to cut through the noise and create one space where it’s easy, simple, and fun to find the best of what’s happening.
My Why
When people land on The Buzz Blog, I want them to feel like they’ve finally found the “easy button” for Houston life. A place where everything’s organized, where they can discover new events, or just get inspired to try something different they haven’t heard of yet.
But I also want it to feel like a friend’s recommendation — the kind of word-of-mouth tip you actually trust. Because let’s be real, that’s how we try new things: someone we know says, “you’ll love this.” My goal is to build that same kind of credibility with readers by being transparent, honest, and down-to-earth.
Community is another huge piece of this. I know firsthand how frustrating it can be to want to go to something but not have anyone to go with. Sometimes your friends aren’t interested, or they’re busy with work, school, or family. That’s why I love the Discord we’ve built — it’s a space where women can find new friends to go explore with. I’ve heard from so many women who felt lost on where to start in “finding their people,” and seeing those connections form has been one of the coolest parts of this journey.
At the end of the day, I want The Buzz Blog to be relatable, informative, playful, and lighthearted. I want women (and yes, men too!) to leave feeling inspired — ready to say yes to new experiences, new friendships, and new adventures.
How It Reflects Me
This blog is a reflection of me in so many ways. It’s my space to be organized, to vent a little, and to play social curator for the Houston community. I’ve always been the “organized friend” — the one making spreadsheets to split big dinner bills or planning Airbnbs for group trips. I love finding fun, different things for people to do and making sure everyone has the best time possible.
The Buzz Blog is my way of channeling that same energy into something bigger. It connects my love for community building and connection with my love for writing. And it’s equally about giving value to readers as it is about giving myself a space for self-expression — almost like a public journal that I get to share with anyone who needs it.
Looking Ahead
In the next six months, I see The Buzz Blog becoming a go-to monthly resource — with big roundups each month, plus weekly or biweekly updates as fun new things pop up around town. I want women to be actively using the blog to make plans, connecting on the Discord to find new friends to go with, and then sharing their adventures on social (IG: @HiveHub.Club) when they try something they discovered here.
For now, this is my creative outlet — a space that feels fun and fulfilling. But I’m definitely open to it growing into something bigger: a platform, a brand, maybe even a revenue stream down the line.
Long-term, I’d love for The Buzz Blog to be at the heart of an even larger community of women in Houston — a group that looks forward to each month’s buzz, gets excited to try new things, and is constantly meeting new friends. There’s such a deep need for face-to-face connection in our world right now, and I want this blog to help bridge that gap.
Final Buzz
So, that’s the why. That’s the heart behind The Buzz Blog. It’s not just about listing events — it’s about creating connection, sparking inspiration, and making it easier for all of us to say yes to more experiences in this city we call home.
With love + a little Houston buzz,
